My Opinion on Same-Sex Marriage

According to polls from "An Overview of the Same-Sex Marriage Debate," most people that oppose this marriage are people who go to church. This would make it seem as though the problem that people may have with the marriage is religious-based. "Five Key Reasons for Marriage Equality" made a logical point: our country was founded on a separation between religion and government which does include religious freedom. Same-sex marriage does not interfere with the practice of religious marriages, and according to Leah Solo, there is nothing in the constitution that would justify a ban against it. According to "Five Key Reasons for Marriage Equality," same-sex couples are denied rights that other couples can enjoy, and therefore, same-sex marriage should be legal in all places in our nation.

Five Key Reasons for Marriage Equality

This source first makes the point that by being barred from marriage, same-sex couples are denied many rights that straight couples enjoy. It then says that when same-sex couples can not marry, they often must leave their homes and families and also causes business problems. The reason that many people are against same-sex marriages is religious beliefs, but this source says that this marriage does not interfere with that as they are still allowed to practice their religious freedom and can marry people consistent with the principles of their faith. Lastly, the case is made that in Massachusetts and 28 different nations, same-sex marriage is legal and "the sky hasn't fallen." It is also against the "freedom and equality" that our country has stood for since its creation.

Rick Perry's Fringe Views on Gay Marriage and Gay Rights

Many political candidates are more focused on satisfying the social conservatives of their party rather than expressing their true views. Because the Republican candidates are so focused on this, they are out of touch with Americans  and their rapidly changing views of gay marriage and writes. The writer criticizes Perry's rejection of gays and lesbians, calling it "intolerant." He feels that a candidate for a political position can not be "behind the curve on this issue" as it affects the views of voters.

Possibilities to Defeat Anti-Marriage Amendment in Minnesota

At a press conference, prominent Republicans join the coalition to defeat the anti-marriage amendment in addition to 4 other political parties. These Republicans are saying that they believe that there is nothing that would justify a marriage ban in the Constitution and that the government cannot define marriage as strictly between a man and a woman. According to Leah Soto, this press conference has cemented the idea that this campaign is growing to include people in all of Minnesota.

The Same-Sex Marriage Debate

Supporters of same-sex marriage not only want to uphold the principle of nondiscrimination, but also point out that homosexual couples do not have the same basic legal rights that are enjoyed by married couples, including health benefits and hospital visitation rights. People who oppose same-sex marriage claim that allowing this marriage would radically redefine and weaken marriage. Polls show that those with a higher frequency of church attendance oppose this marriage by a substantial amount. The general public does, however, support civil unions more than marriage, which grants most of the same legal rights without the title.

If the Beef Doesn't Kill You...

This is an image of a chicken holding a gun, saying "If the beef doesn't kill you, I might." It is appealing to those who think that it is okay to eat chicken, but not beef because of health reasons. The facts and statistics in this image point out the health risks that come along with eating chicken, as well as beef. The final line of the image is "Call us for FREE vegetarian recipes. They'll blow your mind, not destroy your body." This implies that eating any kind of meat will destroy your body.

The writer of this editorial comments on how disliked Floyd Mayweather Jr. is. He relates this to the way that he acts: arrogant and disrespectful; yet, the writer believes that he is also treated unfairly by fans who give him more criticism than he deserves. Although this is true, the writer acknowledges the amazing athlete that he is, maybe even being the best in the history of boxing with his 42-0 record.
