My Opinion on Same-Sex Marriage

According to polls from "An Overview of the Same-Sex Marriage Debate," most people that oppose this marriage are people who go to church. This would make it seem as though the problem that people may have with the marriage is religious-based. "Five Key Reasons for Marriage Equality" made a logical point: our country was founded on a separation between religion and government which does include religious freedom. Same-sex marriage does not interfere with the practice of religious marriages, and according to Leah Solo, there is nothing in the constitution that would justify a ban against it. According to "Five Key Reasons for Marriage Equality," same-sex couples are denied rights that other couples can enjoy, and therefore, same-sex marriage should be legal in all places in our nation.

Five Key Reasons for Marriage Equality

This source first makes the point that by being barred from marriage, same-sex couples are denied many rights that straight couples enjoy. It then says that when same-sex couples can not marry, they often must leave their homes and families and also causes business problems. The reason that many people are against same-sex marriages is religious beliefs, but this source says that this marriage does not interfere with that as they are still allowed to practice their religious freedom and can marry people consistent with the principles of their faith. Lastly, the case is made that in Massachusetts and 28 different nations, same-sex marriage is legal and "the sky hasn't fallen." It is also against the "freedom and equality" that our country has stood for since its creation.
